Journalism Ethics

A Suspect "Confession"
John Karr was arrested in August in Bangkok, Thailand for the U.S. and and Colorado police and there he confessed to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. She was beaten and left in her basement in Boulder, Colorado sometime during Christmas of 1996. He was arrested after Michael Tracey had shown the authorities the emails he had gotten from him about his interest of Tracey's opinion about John and Patsy Ramsey and how they were unfairly involved in the crime. He was cleared but faced charges for child pornography in California.
My opinion of this is that Michael Tracey did have the right to expose the information. I believe this because if you have information that could possibly solve a murder you should let the authorities know. The information you have could get a criminal put behind bars and out of harm's way. Also it would be a good news story of solving the crime.

Using the 'Holocaust' Metaphor
The group PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals made a campaign in 2003 called 'Holocaust on Your Plate.' This campaign shows pets in concentration camps comparing the slaughter of animals for human use is just like the Holocaust. In 2004, The Central Council of Jews in Germany sued PETA in 2004 for the campaign, Then in 2009 the German Supreme Court banned the images from the country.
I think it is a true comparison but it is also very harsh. The Holocaust was a huge tragedy that hurt so many lives. Animal abuse is also a horrible tragedy. I think this is a true comparison because animal cruelty is really bad like the Holocaust. People think just because they are animals you can just do whatever and it doesn't matter but it really does. Same with killing all those Jewish people in the Holocaust.

The Media's Foul Ball
In 2003, the Chicago Cubs were close to winning and advancing to the World Series. A ball was hit and a fan in the stands tried to catch the foul ball which kept Moises Alou from catching that ball. The Marlins ended up winning 8-3 and keeping the Cubs from going to the World Series. The guards escorted the man from Wrigley Field after he was threatened and cursed by many fans.
I do think that the man's name should not be mentioned in the media. I think this because if they released his name he would be tortured or in a lot of danger for that incident. No person should be attacked because the media released their name. Their name shouldn't be released if it could bring an innocent person harm.
