Stories of the Century

John F. Kennedy assassinated in Dallas, 1963
John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1963. He was riding in am uncovered limousine  waving to the people on the streets when Harvey Lee Oswald shot him from an above building. He was shot in his upper back and Governor Connally was also shot in the back by Harvey Lee.

I think this was one of the 100 top new stories for so many reasons. He was our president and many people loved and adored him. The loss of a president is huge and especially when it is an assassination. This affect America as a whole very much.

American astronaut Neil Armstrong becomes the first human to walk on the moon. 1969
Neil Armstrong was the first human to walk on the moon. Before 1969 when they landed on the moon, there was never an aircraft to land and no one had ever stepped foot on the moon. This was a big deal for the U.S. that Neil Armstrong officially landed on the moon.

This was an important event for the U.S. This was a life changing event because before this people doubted and couldn't believe someone could actually go to the moon and actually walk on it. This changed how we looked at space and it started a big epidemic of space travel.

Jackie Robinson breaks baseball's color barrier, 1947
Before Jackie Robinson, there was separation in baseball. There was a separate African American league because of segregation. Then the Dodgers broke the color barrier by signing up Jackie Robinson. This was a big controversy because others thought that was wrong to break the baseball color barrier.

This is such a big event for the 1900s. This action was a big thing in segregation. The Dodgers took a big risk to draft Jackie Robinson and this showed so many people that the baseball league should be one. This was a controversy for a while but affected how baseball leagues worked and eventually made it one league
