Short Answer:
A. Why does Dan Patrick think its important for public tax money to be made available to any public school student who wants to attend a private school?Dan Patrick thinks it is important for public tax money to be available to any public school student to go to private school because he was tired of hearing "no' and this would inspire public schools to step up their game. Also to help low income and minority students that attend low-performing schools.
B. Why do opponents of his legislation, like Ken Zarifis president of Education Austin the largest AISD teachers union, think this use of public tax money is illegal and shouldn't been allowed to happen?
They think the only way that they can use the dollars is to keep them public and also when they are private the companies are no longer accountable to the public.
C. Which side of this argument do you think is correct? WHY
I think there is a reason for private school which is that you pay a tuition to attend that school and if anyone is allowed to go because of tax money than it isn't really private school anymore and I think it is unfair to those that already go that pay their own tuition for the school. As much as it would be amazing for kids with low-income homes to get to go to private school, it doesn't seem like a smart idea.
D. If your parents had access to a set amount of money and were able to use that to help pay for a private school education for you, do you think you would want to go to a private school?
No I wouldn't because I am learning a lot right where I am and Bowie is an amazing school so I don't think I would want my parents to have to pay a tuition so I could go to a private school when I go to a perfectly nice school.
E. What if your parents only got enough to pay for part of that private school?
Then I would not make them pay for it even if I did want to go. I would want to go but I wouldn't get the full experience and my parents could use that money for other important things. I would be totally fine not going to that private school.
